Cut and Wry

"Once bitten, twice shy" supposedly means that when a person has been burned, they will be more careful to avoid it happening again. I, however, am not necessarily one to always learn from my mistakes. I tend to respond more with dry mockery and jaded sarcasm than with a fresh start and new, acquired wisdom.
